REVIEW: Bloody Valentine's Weekend

Blood Manor: Bloody Valentine's Weekend
163 Varick Street
New York, NY

"S" and I returned to Varick Street on Friday, February 10th for Blood Manor's Off-Season Haunt. Their Valentine to New York City was "Bloody Valentine's Weekend." The residents of the manor were celebrating Valentine's Day and guests were invited to experience a blood soaked version of their October Haunted House covered in broken hearts and dead flowers. The lonely monsters inside were looking for someone to love and mutilate.

Was it Scary?

Our return visit to Blood Manor was just as scary as it was in October. "S" and I walked through by ourselves and found that all the blood, guts, and gore were all still there. We fell victim to several startle scares and had a truly fabulous time.

What I Loved

We absolutely love Off-Season haunted houses! We had a wonderful time playing with the actors and marvelling at the new valentine-themed details. A few of my favorites were: heart shaped end trails, a human heart in a box, and a girl playing "he loves me...he loves me not" with a man's fingernails. We also really enjoyed the creepy drag queen in the 3-D section. After the haunted house we enjoyed chatting with the lovely zombie pinup girls of Gorgeous & Gory, who were selling their 2012 Calendar.

What Could Be Better

We loved everything in the house. We loved that there was a haunted house that we could go to in February. "Bloody Valentine's Weekend" could only have been better if it had been open for more than just two evenings (and maybe added some chainsaws.)

Final Thoughts

"S" and I had a blast. It was the best Valentine's Gift. We left Blood Manor exhilarated. I hadn't realized how much I missed haunted houses and in that moment, in the mild February weather, it almost felt like Halloween.
