Terror Behind The Walls

I may have to visit my Brother in Philly to go to Terror Behind the Walls, a haunted house in the abandoned Eastern State Penitentiary. It looks very cool and very scary.

"Many people believe that Eastern State Penitentiary is haunted. As early as the 1940s, officers and inmates reported mysterious visions and eerie experiences in the ancient prison. And the ghost sightings have only increased since Eastern State was abandoned in 1971.
With the growing interest in paranormal investigation, Eastern State Penitentiary may now be the most carefully studied building in the United States. Dozens of teams visit to explore the site each year."

"The best haunted experience we have ever visited"

Trapped in Purgatory

I'm looking forward to getting more information about Trapped in Purgatory on Staten Island. The 2009 version was described on Hauntedhouse.com as:

"Haunted House in Staten Island New York. Now two haunt locations! Dare to visit our signature haunt at Hylan Blvd, which features a haunted trail up to the gates of Purgatories Asylum. Visit our new location at Veterans Rd., which hosts Staten Island’s brutally gory Slaughter House. This year is hands down the scariest ever, if you thought last year was frightening wait until we shock you with this years bigger gut wrenching haunts! "

2010 Details Coming soon!

NYC Halloween Haunted House

I'm not sure if I'll be attending the Vortex Theater's Haunted House. It's only 20 min long, but it sounds really scary. Like pee your pants scary. Everyone walks through alone, it's pitch black, and the actors will touch you. You also have to sign a waiver! I love Halloween and I enjoy a good scare, but I'm not sure how I feel about being touched in the dark by strangers that are trying to scare me into a psych ward. I'd like to go. But I'll need to have a day when I'm feeling really brave.

No one under 18 admitted.

And you have no choice but to walk through alone.

- 2010 Information Coming Soon -
WARNING: NYC HALLOWEEN HAUNTED HOUSE is an intense interactive experience that lasts approximately 20 minutes/person.
You don't just walk through it - you live it. And yes, you will be touched.

Nightmare: Superstitions

The last two years I've made NYC's Nightmare Haunted House a part of my month long Halloween celebration. This year it's entitled Nightmare: Superstitions.

NEW YORK’S MOST HORRIFYING HAUNTED HOUSE
Now celebrating its seventh year, NIGHTMARE is a unique, fully immersive haunted house experience. Set in an insane asylum, NIGHTMARE: SUPERSTITIONS forces you to break a superstition in one room and suffer the terrible consequences in the next. AOL Cityguide’s No. 1 rated haunted attraction in New York City, it delves deep into the psychology of fear. Now featuring a second attraction, FUN HOUSE.
Yes, it’s scary.

NIGHTMARE: SUPERSTITIONS is located at NOHO Event Center, 623 Broadway at Houston (enter on Mercer Street).

Halloween Ebay Finds

I have found several incredible Halloween Decorations on Ebay. The wooden pieces have an eerie old antique witchy vibe to them. Below are a few I have purchased and a few I wanted to purchase but didn't have room for in my NYC apartment.

Check out theses available items on Ebay:

Woooden Candle Stand
Black Decorative Birdcage
Wooden Pedestal Candle Holder with Glass Globe
Pedestal Picture Frame

If I had Unlimited Funds

If I had unlimited funds, I would purchase these amazing decorations from Grandin Road. So, someone with the means should incorporate them into their amazing seasonal display.

Pumpkin Ale

I plan to serve bottles of delicious Pumpkin Ale at my party. I was surprised at the large selection available and looked up some reviews to see which seasonal brews are considered the best and most delicious. There were several rave reviews for Shipyard's Pumpkinhead Ale and Dogfishhead Craft Brewery's Punkin' Ale. As a fan of all things sweet I think I'd love to try O'Fallon Pumpkin Ale, which has been described as liquid pumpkin pie. I'm not sure that I will be able to find it in NYC, but I'll try.

Check out some reviews of different Pumpkin Ales here.

Dinner and a Murder

On October 24th, I will be celebrating my birthday with a Murder Mystery Costume Ball. The Murder Mystery Game is from Dinner and a Murder. Two years ago, I used their 1920s 'Murder at the Four Deuces' game for my birthday party and everyone still talks about how much fun the party was. So after taking a year off for last year's 'Mad Tea Party' wonderland costume party, I've decided to have another murder mystery birthday party. This year I chose the  Halloween themed 'Immortal Murders' Murder Mystery Game that takes place at a costume ball. I'm very excited and I know that Dinner and a Murder will provide another incredible evening of entertainment.

Lights-Alive

I found my new favorite Halloween Special Effects Lighting in Lights-Alive. I just ordered the miniFLICKER. It simulates the creepy flickering lights of an old house with a faulty electrical connection. miniFLICKER is going to add incredible ambiance to my murder mystery birthday party on October 24th. Can't wait.

Also, check out the Firefly Lightning Simulator for realistic thunder and lighting storm effects.

Halloween Entertaining

Pottery Barn has a great Halloween Dinnerware Collection. My favorites are the Bat Salad Plates, the Bat Table Runner, and the Skeleton Hand Drink Dispenser Stand. I hope to get a set of the salad plates and the table runner. So cute.

Preparing for the Haunting Month

I love Halloween. It is the most theatrical of all holidays and combines all of my favorite things.

Costumes ~ Candy ~ Haunted Houses ~ Horror Movies ~ My Birthday ~ Pumpkins

October is the one month when I abandon my love of all things pink to embrace a darker asthetic. The entire month is an opportunity for fun activities and make believe. I relish every moment.

In the last few weeks, I have been planning my halloween home decor for the month of October and for my birthday party on October 24th.

I am so in love with the Halloween Haven Decor from Grandin Road. The collection features halloween decor designed by Martha Stewart exclusively for Grandin Road. I recently purchased the Flickering LED Halloween Candles, Martha Stewart Set of 12 Wine Labels, Set of Two LED Halloween Candles, and a Martha Stewart Realistic Feathered Crow.
